April 12, 2008 daytime

Because its 75 degrees out! Holla! Today I went to try on bridesmaid dresses, for a walk around my neighborhood (glorious Fort Greene, Brooklyn), watch some soccer at the park and picked up some groceries. Ahhh. Life is beautiful.

Because I felt like it! I need a day off!! This was the best. The jeans are a little tight, but workable. I love the late 80s/early 90s feel they have. I feel like Chloe Sevigne almost! Like Nylon-esque. Rock it out J-schro. Word.

Where: Fort Greene park, East Village, Nolita House (for bluegrass and brunch) and then all over Alphabet City. Why: Because days like today make us happy to be alive.

Where: Coney Island Beach!!!! Why: I like taking a long sleeve shirt with me to the beach. Its cotton, so its cool and lightweight and feels good blocking the sun after speading a while on the beach. Short shorts are acceptable and encouraged seaside. And I’m trying my hardest to always wear a hat and shades to protect my skin and eyes.

Where: Hanging out with ma petite soeur in Brooklyn. Why: I rock it out casual a lot more than this blog would imply. On weekends (or days I’m not in the office), I generally wear sneakers, shorts/jeans and an easy top. Trying a bit harder with this huge, blousy top. Wearing it backwards, because the neck was just too buttoned up/old marm in the front. I actually wear a lot of my tops backwards— a good way to change things up.

Where: Lunch with my friend Lindsay from home Why: Was a big early bird this morning and did tons of running around, so by the time I needed to get dressed, I just wanted something easy. Clothes in the front of the closet (like these shorts and top) were just right. And it got sort of hot all of a sudden. But now I’m exhausted and need a nap before I spend the rest of the day working.

Sunny Saturday

Ahh, finally some of that hot summer heat. I’ve been leaving the house with wet hair and hats a lot lately and this outfit was perfect for a low messy bun and a hat. I love little sun dresses in the summer!

Catskills Blues

This outfit has a lot of inspirations. The overall theme came from my new friend and (old) style crush Glamourai… just adding jewels all over the place to keep it from getting too casz. Yay for jewelz! The top is sort of a nod to Woodstock which is the exit prior to ours on the highway (it is the 40th anniversay of the Summer of Love). The shorts have a camper type vibe to them, a little hint at Dirty Dancing (which takes place in the Catskills). So I am really all over the place with this one, but I love it and it may be one of my favorite outfits from the entire summer.

Lunch Date

A surprise lunch date on a Tuesday?! Yes sir! Adam e-mailed me yesterday morning to ask if he could take me out on a lunch date. I happily said yes. I was still in the 50s mindset from the day before, so the little blouse, tucked into a full skirt was my starting point. I never wear these shoes (and for good reason - they hurt), but wore them anyways because I was only walking a few blocks. I added some summer notes with the hat and belt. Instead of a bag, I just put everything in my bike basket. Nice right? The finishing touch is a necklace from the fall JessLC collection (debuting next month). Jess sent me this pretty as a preview!! I haven’t taken it off since!

On the Prowl

Oh man. Man oh man. Was it hotter than hell on Friday? Yes!! On these dripping with sweat days I’ve been doing shorts and sleeveless or sundresses. I’m pretty into this outfit… I switched out my favorite jean shorts for a black pair. I love the paisley of this top as well— I think I’m going to do a lot more remade garments for fall. I just need to get my sewing machine moving and we’ll be in business. Hopefully in my new apartment for that matter! Will keep you posted on how it goes!!

Q & A

This morning I texted Adam to tell him this was my “Jessica Loves Adam” outfit. The whole start of it was that I got this awesome cuff in the mail from Brooks of Grove Street Studio. It spells out Adam’s last name, which starts with a Q. The next part was the Q necklace Adam gave me when we first started dating. He actually had an idea to make a key necklace for me after I saw some I liked at the Brooklyn Flea. So he found one key on e-bay and the other we found one day on a run. I put them all together for one piece. Other than that, just a variation on my favorite creamy/white blouse + jorts + hat look of the summer. A nice night to eat at our favorite diner in Brooklyn.
