I am sick. I should be calling in but have too much work to get done. I feel rotton.

Last night I touched one of my gateways into what I shall call my hippie phase. Its when I feel really spiritual and in touch and happy. Plus I’m going to a concert tonight, so I feel like I’m dressed properly. I picked up this shirt at the Brooklyn Flea Market yesterday. I love it.

I don’t really love this outfit and felt sort of uncomfortable all day. For me, it goes to show the more effort I put into getting ready, the better I feel that day… even if I’m wearing something uncomfortable (or not that comfortable). So anyway, I’m trying to keep a record and we all have our off days. Today was mine. In the closet and in life. I’m going to try a little harder tomorrow.

Where: Office, Lunchtime Shopping Why: Just bought this cardigan and Zara yesterday and its perfect for this kind of weather, a little chilly, but still warm enough to work up a sweat in the sun. Added jeans to the mix to keep is casual and so happy to bring back my favorite fall/winter boots (3 years old and 2 new soles). The belt pulls the look together. And boy am I happy this is what I wore today…

Where: Work Why: As we all know, more times than not, living life and being in the moment are much more than what we’re wearing. Today was especially the case for me, wishing someone very important to me a bon voyage. So that means— what’s hanging in the closet, clean and easy to throw on? That’s the outfit I have on today. Jeans, blouse and boots for a no fuss no muss look.

Where: Work Why: Today I’m putting together a bunch of colors that usually work as neutrals to other outfits— navy, gray, and brown. It was chillier than it has been this morning, so I felt like a warm and snuggly fall outfit. The dress is a heavy jersey (I made it last winter) and the tights are fuzzy and ribbed. The cardigan is enough to be warm, but not hot to make me sweaty on the walk to the subway. These boots are longing to be loved- so, here they are.

Where: Work: Why: After watching the debate last night, I felt really political and feel the need to start dressing the part more often leading up until the election. I started to make myself an Obama tee shirt (the one I ordered is on backorder) but thought I can look patriotic without screaming everyday. So I’m wearing this scarf in honor of being an American and plus I love it. Ya know, my fashion explainations aren’t always the best, but when you feel it, you’ve gotta go with it. The wide leg jeans give the look a 70’s vibe and its about time I re-watch Love Story. Today I am also crossing the taboo by wearing navy and black together.

Where: Work Why: I’m happy to be pulling some of my fall and winter coats out of the closet. I also love this off white wintery sweater dress. I always feel like making the most effort on Mondays after a weekend of jeans and sweaters or sweatpants and tee shirts.

Where: Shopping at the Brooklyn Flea market, working on little projects Why: Another beautiful Sunday and another trip to the flea market. Doing some research for a little article I’m working on. I love the handmade look of the cardigan and it got quite a few compliments at the market. A perfect cozy look for a perfect cozy Sunday.

Where: Office, errands Why: Not every day is a fashionable day. Some days I just resort to jeans, boots and a cardigan, and still try to make it look somewhat put together. For this look— the scarf and belt are the right finishing touches for me.

Where: Lunch and coffee and traveling (first in Tampa, then flying to NYC) Why: Its always a little tough to go from sunny Florida (or Cali or where ever) back to cold New York. Today I layered this warm (yet tres chic) wrap fleece to take me from the sun to the city. Jeans and boots were the “bigger” (read: take most space) items I brought with me so I wore/am wearing them both ways on the plane. Loved the sun and sad to be leaving after such a short trip.

Where: Just work Why: Its really a crime to do this, but I’m sort of saving up my favorite dresses and outfits to wear at home over the Holidays. This is an outfit I’ve worn in the past and always liked it enough. But note to self: wear a slip with itchy wool skirts!

What I Wore: Pants!

Where: Work Why: I’m wearing pants!! Denim aside, this is my first pair of pants of the season and they were part of an office clean out. Lucky for me they’re super long. I wanted to balance out the mensy look of the pants with a ruffled femme top. The brown belt, boots and necklace pull it all together.

Where: Office Why: I had something else in mind, but it just didn’t come together right. I knew it was going to be a cold one, so I opted for this peplum and rounded sleeve sweater. We’ve had some big clean outs here, so I have lots of jeans, which I will be wearing on these super chilly days. There was a mega wide hem on these babies, so I released it and sewed on a smaller standard hem. Nice!

I really love this dress. It may very well be the dress that started up this whole fascination with daily outfit pictures and Interfashion 2.0. I was at a party and met a whole slew of people including a cute redhead who worked for VOGUE. She was tres chic and I ended up bringing her up in conversation with someone else I met at that party a week later. He told me that she was photographed by the Sartorialist (this was 2 years ago before everyone knew who Scott was...) so I got on the site and began a serious series of clicks that lead me to what I'm doing now. I bought this dress a few weeks later as the foundation of my then "new" stylish self (and I've pretty much worn in the same way each time). I really love this dress. I've made it a little more spring by wearing some flowers in my hair and to live out my inner hippie a bit. I'm all lovey dovey today and this dress is just the right floaty, floral thing to wear.

Tights needed for warmth, pink and florals needed for happiness. That’s about all it boils down to today.
