Well, here’s the long winded version. Whenever I read something about another culture, especially in a war-torn or impoverished part of the world I get pretty sad. So I like to wear this T shirt to remind myself that I am a freedom fighter and I need to work a little more on meta than fashion. But I still have to leave the house. This outfit really makes no sense at all. Its like business on bottom and party on top, which is not at all appropriate for work. Later tonight I am going to be chillen out, maxing relaxing all cool. Then the party can start.
I really should have tried harder. I cannot stand this wimpy inbetween weather. Lets pump it up to 60 already so I can flash some bare legs. I am sick of wearing tights. Today these do not match. Navy with a black outfit. A big “no no in the world of color matching. Hmmm. Don’t Care. looks cool with green.
I’m feeling like a lux hippie tonight. I am down with the black eye makeup, but also down with the scarf around the head. When I get dressed up I don’t like to look too hoochie. I guess covering most of my arms/legs solves that. I also think the head scarf makes me look more approachable.
Where:
The office that can’t decide if it wants to over or under heat.
Why:
The weather in New York here is idyllic… The evening and morning air is crisp, you can sleep with your windows open— it almost felt like a homecoming weekend. And ya know? I just wanted to wear some tights! (I just took them off— a little too toasty now). Again, inspired by the lovely Francesca.
Where:
Office, Field trip to NJ
Why:
Today I’m going on a little field trip to check out whats going on in the market and to some of our retailers. I knew I needed to be comfortable, wearing flat shoes and nothing too ‘out there’. I’m also excited to bring along my new Day Camp bag from the 60s (bought this weekend for $5 at Brooklyn Flea). Let’s get inspired!!
Where:
Office and meet up
Why:
I really have no idea. I started with the tights and just kept putting random things on. Wearing navy and black like its my birthright. I feel so childlike/ish in this short cirlce skirt. Spinning around all the live long day.
Where:
Office
Why:
Wow. It. Is. Cold. After waking up way late and chilly I had to think fast on what I was going to throw together. I knew I wanted to wear tights, so I doubled up with two pairs of thick, opaque, black pairs. Black skirt- check. Boots- check. Then layering up the sweaters for optimum warmth. I’m mad for scarves all winter long (ditto for hats and gloves).
This is another example of something I’d throw on when I have no time (running half hour + late), i.e.- everyday wear.
Also check out the belt— sometimes belts are too big when you want to wear them at both your hips and your waist. No problem— just slide the metal tongue to the side and pull tight!
Where:
Work, Friend’s Photography Show, Dinner
Why:
Today a good friend of mine is in from out of town for a show of his photography. I am really pumped to see the him and his work. So whenever I’m doing something artsy (or, just doing something) I feel like its fun to dress up. I wore this ensemble this morning with my leopard coat and got a lot of stares. At first I thought I looked a little too too something, but then realized, there aren’t a lot of 6’ tall girls in leopard coats and black tights on the Tuesday morning commute. Oh well. I love this dress and I love that coat.
Where:
At home in Fort Wayne, Indiana
Why:
This morning the power was off for about 4 hours so we just sat around and finally decided to go to the grocery. When we came back the power was on, I was bored, and needed to shower and get ready. I thought this bright blue dress felt icy and looked right for the day. Thanks to my sister for taking the photos.
Also, I need a haircut (or at least a bang trim). I know.
Where:
Over the river and through the woods
Why:
I love the beautiful deep red of this dress and saved it especially for Christmas Day. My knee has been bothering me, so I switched out my favorite booties in favor of some more flat boots. The weather in Northern Indiana has been wacky— slippery ice one minute and thunderstorms the next. I was slipping and sliding all over the place yesterday.
