These leggings are so amazing! Seriously, the fabric feels like it woven by elves or something.

I've been pretty obsessed with the black and gold color combo as of late. And I'm most excited about my new badass leather skirt - definitely going to be making it's way through regular rotation.

This was what I wore for my husband's birthday. It was a nice excuse to dress up! I love this skirt because it can make almost every top look polished. I thought it might be fun to mix it up with an edgy mesh top.

This was my anniversary dinner outfit. My husband and I went out to the supposed “best restaurant in DC” and I would tend to agree. It was a very low-key atmosphere, but fun to dress up nonetheless. I’m not gonna lie, I’m stoked skirt suits are back. I feel all 90s-SJP-ish :-)

Cut It Out

This Staerk tank from the Weardrobe Closet is so sleek and sophisticated, I wish I had it just a little bit longer to pair it with some other things. Either way, it was nice to wear it out, even if only for one evening... *sigh!*

Like most of the fashion universe right now, I've been inspired by Givenchy's Fall Couture show (and pretty much everything else Ricardo Tisci churns out as of late), so when I saw this Complex Geometries piece in the Weardrobe Closet, I knew I had to try it with lace-up boots. It also prompted me to check out more Complex Geometries pieces. As you might assume from the name, the line has so many magnificently-shaped pieces. I'm now making it my mission to add one to my closet.

the un-rockstar red scarf top

I've had this top for a couple years, but seem to keep finding new ways to wear it. I love it, because it's like wearing a beautiful scarf that you can tie multiple ways. For some reason, I felt kind of rockstar-ish in this outfit, though I definitely didn't act it on this particular evening. I drank too much wine at a bbq and wussed out minutes after arriving at Russia House maybe around 11:30 (though I don't even think it was that late). Lame.

the altogether

For quite a while now, I've been searching for the perfect mesh insert dress. Initially, I was Hell-bent on a white one, but I was looking at my Helmut Lang tunic the other day, imagining its infinite possibilities, when the light bulb went off that a black one was already within my grasp. And I love how wearing a strapless dress underneath shows off the spinal shape of the tunic. I had my first "blogger meet up" on Saturday with Laura and Megan of chicfaced. Being able to meet up in person with two local bloggers that I enjoy reading so much was a refreshing experience. I went absolutely bonkers at H&M the other day. I can't get over how many amazing Fall pieces they have for under the $50 mark. I even saw a few things on my way out the door which have been haunting my dreams since I left. These snake print jeans were in the H&M Fall "magazine" and I marked a giant star next to them the moment I laid eyes upon them, so I guess it was meant to be. However, they fit so much better than I would have expected. I might even go out on a limb and say they rival the fit of my much-loved J Brands... More on my blog www.districtofchic.com

I guess this would be the "night" half of a day-to-night look from Saturday (day half seen here: http://www.districtofchic.com/2009/09/if-it-werent-for-double-standards-i.html ). I liked the fancy feel of the top, so it wasn't too difficult to dress it up for going out. Hmm... I kind of wish I had something exciting to tell you, like "I saw Karl Lagerfeld riding the metro and neither of us had a pen with which he could autograph my forehead, so he gave me one of his rings instead," but that would that would be a untrue. It's getting colder, which is exciting, because I was getting to the point where I was at a loss for what warm-weather-Fall clothes to wear. I have more sweaters than any one person living below the Mason-Dixon line should have, but that did not stop me from buying another one at H&M. Among a few other things, this dress was one of the vintage goodies I obtained in New Orleans. I saw this on the rack and swiped it on a whim, in the process of grabbing many many other things. It's not the style (if I have a style) I normally go for, but it fit like a glove and I'm kind of digging the delicate, Victorian feel. It's also beyond comfy. I have a confession to make: I'm not usually a huge fan of leopard print. I do enjoy touches of it, but I haven't been able to bring myself to actually purchase a piece for my own. This all changed the day I saw this incredible robe thing in a vintage shop in New Orleans. I feel like the particularly tacky rendition of the leopard print, combined with the red leaf design that could easily be mistaken for flames, not to mention 100% nylon composition make this a piece I can wear again and again. I also suspect I will serve me well when I'm a crazy old lady living with my many many cats. www.districtofchic.com
