I’m feeling so spooky lately. I’ve been reading the Twilight saga (on New Moon now) and dreaming about vampires. So the all black seems to work nicely for my mood today. Also pumped to wear my new Payless shoes!!

Its the first day of fall and tights are the name of the game. I’ve actually bought a few pairs of leggings recently (no full footie tights in the colors I wanted) and wear them tucked under my heel. I think I may actually prefer not having my toes all sweatied up by tights. Also, loving this easy knit dress from H&M and keeping it tonal with the tights. My mom’s purple cocktail ring (love it!) also in the same color story. For the chill in the air, my go to black scarf. The belt shouldn’t work, but it does (to wear at the natural waist, I move the metal tongue to the side and then wrap excess belt to keep her nicely in place). Happy Equinox!

First off, the more I wear heels, the harder it is for me to go back to flats. I feel like a sky scraper today! Also excited to wear a shirt fresh from the cleaners, paired with something *new* from my closet. This is a skirt I wore a lot last year as a knee length number, but as you can see, I’ve hemmed it up quite a bit. I love short skirts and tights together! Instead of being all black and sort of boring, the tights I’m wearing are a dark charcoal and ribbed. Actually, they’re leggings, which are my new faves. The shoes are my new classic and at the rate I’ve been wearing them, they’ll be perfectly broken in (…soon I hope).
I’m wearing my mom’s charm bracelet from when she was my age. My dad’s college is on there, her high school banner, an artist palette, an ancient Disney pin, a globe… I’ve added a thimble and a DG charm. Its such a great piece.

When I checked the temperature this morning I knew right away I would be pulling out my favorite vintage faux leopard coat. I planned out some outfit ideas ahead of time and today am going for a modernized mod sort of gal. I think this vintage dress looks great with the coat and love the tonal tights. The patent oxfords are more on the modern side. To make the dress fit a little better, I removed the belt that came with it and opted for a scarf that matches the bodies. It helps me look a little longer in the torso than left unchanged.

Today I decided to try a little harder. I love these tights and that’s where I started with this outfit. I’m also pumped that my Payless booties have finally been worn-in (I wore them on the commute and haven’t taken them off yet!). I paired a longer slip with a shorter dress and I like the layered look. Also love the pretty matching of the tights to the scarf. It looks like it might be one of the last ‘warm’ days of fall and I’m glad I took advantage of it. Happy Wednesday, friends!

I’ve been sharing very little about my personal life lately, but basically it boils down to the fact that I’ve been really busy with more important things than my blog and fashion. But I feel the need to step things up again and that’s what I’ll be doing. Today was a step in the right direction. Dress- check. Heals- Check. Tights- Check. Feeling totally chic and glam- check.

I’ve been really looking foward to wearing this skirt that I picked up at Concordia Thrift in Fort Wayne, Indiana last Christmas. It was $2.50!! They have the best stuff and everything is really really cheap. Too many “thrift†stores are becoming way too expensive. If its not really highly collected vintage and advertised as a vintage store, I’m not down to pay high prices. This whole outfit was really cheap, minus the coat which is years old anyway. Another example of how you can work a current trend and still go easy on your pocketbook.

Because its Halloween!! I’m dressed as 60s model Twiggy today (which also happened to be my high school nickname) in some vintage threads. So far I’ve been tagged as a leprechaun and a martian. Ha!

Today I’m supporting Barack Obama for President of the United States. I voted at 6 am this morning and by tonight, I’ll be able to say this is one of the best days of my life. I looked forward to this morning like a child on Christmas Eve. I am so grateful to be able to vote and have a candidate that so closely mirrors my views.

Rehearsal and Dinner, Fort Wayne, IN
Why:
My dearest friend Lindsay got married this weekend and I was a bridesmaid. This is what I wore to the rehearsal and dinner following. I wasn’t sure of the dress code and in Fort Wayne something “dressy†could be black pants and a blouse. I feel really comfortable in my new “uniform†— the black skirt and bootie combo. So a new pair of tights and sweater worked. I also decided against checking a bag, so I needed things that would pack and travel well.

I like the idea of being inspired and copying what I see in blogs or in magazines. In highschool it was a big faux pas to buy something once another girl had already sported it. Now, I think copying someone’s look or idea is flattering (unless of course, they are copying and claiming an original idea). Today’s outfit idea started with the December issue of Lucky and a feature on oversized houndstooth. Although this skirt (worn as a dress) isn’t exactly houndstooth, it has the same feel. I love the dramatic, loosely woven pattern. I bought the skirt 2 or so years ago, and its too big to wear as such now, so I’m wearing it sort of as a jumper.

After a year I finally had this dress taken to the cleaners so it was about time I wore it again. Didn’t want to do plain black underneath so I took a risk and went for patterned tights. I know a lot of you may not think this works, but I like the dimension it adds to the outfit. I’m a fan of mixing patterns (more on that later).

Went on a big thrifting adventure (well, just a trip to the new Beacon’s Closet) and bought this blouse and skirt). Love them! Wacky color combos rock my world right now (and realized this is my 6th bright red/orange top in the last year)…

Well, when you finally take your laundry to be done, its really fun to feel like you have a full closet again. I’ve been going to a new place now, and they do a really good job. Before I was a little nervous to take this dress because of the high heat some laundry places use with their dryers. Anyways, long story stort, I haven’t worn this dress in two months and I’m excited to pull it out again today.

Why:
Today a good friend of mine is in from out of town for a show of his photography. I am really pumped to see the him and his work. So whenever I’m doing something artsy (or, just doing something) I feel like its fun to dress up. I wore this ensemble this morning with my leopard coat and got a lot of stares. At first I thought I looked a little too too something, but then realized, there aren’t a lot of 6’ tall girls in leopard coats and black tights on the Tuesday morning commute. Oh well. I love this dress and I love that coat.

At home in Fort Wayne, Indiana
Why:
This morning the power was off for about 4 hours so we just sat around and finally decided to go to the grocery. When we came back the power was on, I was bored, and needed to shower and get ready. I thought this bright blue dress felt icy and looked right for the day. Thanks to my sister for taking the photos.
Also, I need a haircut (or at least a bang trim). I know.

To a Christmas party (we celebrated with lunch)
Why:
Although it was only about 3 degrees F when I took this picture, I’ve had this outfit in mind for a while for my birthday. Its all sorts of fun with the pretty 1950’s sheer lacey top and the black and lurex striped skirt (which I hemmed that morning). I finally bought some purple tights so on they went. I love this outfit, but I really loved spending the day with my family and how they went to a lot of work to make it feel special (and thanks for all of the kind birthday wishes from my tumblr and interwebs friends!!)
Where:
Office, maybe dinner
Why:
Well, these new tights were some of the loot I gathered while in Indiana over the holidays. The black lace instantly made me feel gothic, so I went with a high neckline and a lot of black. I’m loving this look. Sort of professional with a twist. What do you think?

Why:
My first motivation of the day was the forecast— its going to be really cold in New York later in the week so I knew tights were a must for me today. I also had a itch to wear this grape soda shade of purple. I really like how the blouse and sweater sort of, but also don’t sort of match. They have the same undertones (its a red-based purple) and that’s why I think they work. The long skirt made me feel very Bonnie and Clyde, so I grabbed my favorite booties and a disco beret to boot. I’m loving this look for my first day back in the office this week.
I also love that this whole look is very chic, but was really inexpensive. The blouse and skirt were thrifted, the sweater was bought with a gift certificate (from Betsey herself!!) and the remaining pieces are Target/Payless.

I just had an urge to wear this skirt— its one of my favorites. Maybe because I was working on designing some pieces yesterday with my co-worker Courtney, I subconsciously wanted to wear it. I guess she did too.
This is something I’ve had out to wear on a warmer day… Today’s in the 50s and its perfect!! I like the unusual mint/fuchsia pairing… as for weird color combination, you’ll be seeing a lot from me this spring
Its really chilly today (I think sub freezing when I walked to work this am), but I have the spring bug and had to wear something fun. I found this skirt yesterday by chance while on a mission for toothpaste at Target. And it was only $15!! You can’t make a skirt like this for $15!! The tights and t-neck are for warmth and the bright pink scarf perks it all back up. I love this outfit!!
Well, last night I started to clean out my closet and switch over my fall/winter duds to my spring/summer collection. Also, its supposed to be in the 60s in NYC today so I thought a little short dress would be wonderful. But its really short. Too short to wear without a bathing suit or tights underneath. I love rocking out the navy!!
